The Journey Begins

The idea has been bouncing around for 6 months. Sport can and will improve mental and physical health of communities, but… how can the latest data collection technology improve the quality of physical and mental health of the community along side sport?

I believe it can but it must be proved within the community.

Much of the data collected in sport is generally used to enhance performance. A lot of those collecting data to the level that enhances performance is at a semi professional or professional level. Whilst it is true that GPS vests and match filming is carried out at all levels, many are not using the data collected to enhance performance but to monitor performance or view the statistics. Most are able to collect this data now, due to the readily available and reasonable pricing equipment. Such as GPS vests and video cameras such as VEO.

I want to collect data for performance enhancement but also to evidence to participants improvement physically and mentally. The evidence is particularly useful for showing the participants, generating a motivation in improving their own physical health once our intervention is complete.

This part for me is the biggest. Visually being able to demonstrate improvement is powerful in any field. Education settings are an example of this.

The data we collect will be important to how we deliver our activities to our participants. The data can lead us to manipulate sessions or projects to suit the participants on the program. Once a bigger bank of data is collected we can then start to see trends or patterns by participant, session, program or even community wide. I believe when we can start to see trends in communities, we can make interventions to make communities stronger.

We are CIC for this reason. The wider picture is that by improving the physical and mental health of members of the communities, we can improve the community and them stronger.

Follow our program on this website. I will be blogging about our progress as it happens. If you would like to get involved contact us and let’s discuss.
